Hi, my name is

Yorick Van de Venne.

I build things for the web.

I'm a web developer specializing in creating scalable and responsive websites. Currently, I'm employed as Back-end Developer at Level Level. But feel free to contact me if you have any questions or if you're interested in working together.

About Me

My name is Yorick and I am a young and ambitious web developer. I'm a true all-rounder, I like to learn new stuff and keep improving myself. It's also the reason why I love coding so much as there is always something new to learn.

My ambition is to become a lead full-stack developer. Though my interests for front-end development exceed my back-end interests (by far), I want to have enough knowlegde of both to independently be able to develop websites.

When I'm not working you can find me in the gym, on the tennis court or playing the guitar! Also I enjoy cooking, but mostly the eating part!

Here are a few technologies I've been working with recently:

  • TypeScript
  • JavaScript
  • Next.js
  • Tailwind CSS
  • PHP
  • WordPress

Work Experience

Backend Developer @ Level Level

November 23 - Present

  • Custom integrations: In various projects, I assisted clients in integrating their existing CRM systems with WordPress. For the Fietsersbond (Cyclists' Union), I developed a custom integration with Microsoft Dynamics, ensuring that new members who signed up via the website were automatically added to Dynamics' membership administration.
  • Automated unit tests: For various projects, I developed a series of unit tests. For The A11y Collective, I wrote tests for critical functions, such as the checkout process in WooCommerce and the course completion workflow.
  • Web accessibility: Through courses and hands-on experience, I gained extensive knowledge about web accessibility. This enhanced my awareness of common pitfalls, enabling me to develop front-end solutions with a focus on improving accessibility for everyone.
  • API development: For MS Amlin, I developed a RESTful API that allowed users to find nearby brokers based on their postal code.

Frontend Developer @ iO

September 2022 - April 2023

  • Pixel-perfect implementation of designs: For the client portal of High Profile Locations (HPL), I was responsible for translating the design into a pixel-perfect implementation. I critically reviewed the designs, discussed improvements with the designers, and implemented the necessary enhancements.
  • Fully responsive development: For various projects, I ensured that the front-end performed optimally across all devices and screen sizes. For Aviko, for example, I developed a product accordion in Next.js that works seamlessly on desktop, tablet, and mobile.
  • Handling data from APIs: For various projects, I retrieved necessary data from APIs. I used GraphQL for efficient data fetching and ensured type safety with TypeScript. With Next.js, I effectively loaded data and connected it to the appropriate components.
  • Scalability of components: Scalability was a central focus in every project. For HPL, I was responsible for developing various React components that could be easily reused and adapted for different use cases.

Trainee Content / Development @ Burst

Oktober 2019 - Februari 2022

  • Support tickets: Resolving minor issues and communicating with clients.
  • Content migrations and CMS management (in Drupal)
  • Graduation internship: About providing insights into productivity.
  • Note: In the two/three years I worked at Burst, I started as a trainee with a zero hour contract and did two internships. So during my studies I always kept working at Burst. In my last year at Burst, the company fused with other companies and became iO.

  • Aviko QR Code

The client Aviko wanted to add QR codes to their packages to attract more visitors. But their packages can be found all over the world and depending on where you scan the package the QR code should redirect you to the correct landingpage. This was the challange I had to deal with while creating a custom Drupal module to manage the redirects and setting up a Node.js server to handle all the redirecting and getting the users location.

  • Verno Customized frames

The Client Verno (framer) wanted users to be able to see what there art would look like with the frames Verno offered. That's why Burst created a subdomain where users could customize there frame. This was a very complex application which had predefined steps, but Verno wanted the users to be able to share their work with others during any part of this customize proces. So my task during my internship at Burst was to have the steps with it's content tracked within the URL as a Base64 string.
